Who Replaces Nemanja Vidic Against the Dutch?
Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic isn’t eligible to participate in the first game of this year’s World Cup because of an absurd FIFA rule (he was given a red card in the last qualifying match). Who do you guys think will replace him for that first game? And do you think his not playing against the Dutch will be a problem?
Jadran Sport suggests his replacement might be left back Dusan Basta, which would require slotting Goran Gavrancic or Ivica Drgautinovic next to über defensive stud Mladen Krstajic.
For those who don’t know much about Nemanja Vidic or the “Famous Four” check out this post: It’s the Defense Stupid !

Why do you think its an absurb rule? It makes sense to me.

I think you start over when the tournament begins. You shouldn’t be penalized for something that happened months ago. And I’d like to see every team be able to choose from their full compliment of players.
You can let the card carry over to the next qualifying campaign.

I can understand that, but the qualifiers are sometimes viewed as far of the tournament. The whole thing is called the World Cup “Finals” afterall.

Yeah, I understand that and it is logical, I just don’t like it. It just seems picayune to me.

I also think its absurd and now wonder some WC coaches sent a petition of complaint to FIFA.

Mayber there is hope yet that Vidic can play. FIFA is just an exceedingly obtuse tyranny.
