Serbia and Montenegro Heading For Divorce

March 14th, 2006 | By: Lyle | No Comments »

Montenegro is voting on May 21 to decide whether it wants to remain a part of Serbia - Montenegro or become an independent country. If Montenegro splits from Serbia, it effectively means Serbia - Montenegro will not being playing for a country during the World Cup. An antenuptial agreement is in the works though that will allow Serbia - Montenegro to compete as Serbia - Montenegro at the World Cup and perhaps until 2008, because the Euro 2008 qualifying schedules have already been set and would have to be reorganized to accomodate a new country. And that would tick some people off like the English FA, because of the already overloaded European club football calendar.

Montenegro was an independent kingdom before it became a part of Yugoslavia.
