Apparently size does matter after all, leaving Opdam off, not sure if I really like that idea. Ah well i’ll give Van Basten the benefit of the doubt, he hasn’t screwed up yet.

Brillian Midfield. Brillian Attack. Poor defence. NIkola Zigic and Mirko Vucinic will tear them apart.

are you really that insecure that you have to keep putting the dutch down? or are the serbs just not interesting enough to post about?

Poor defense? Am i mistaking, or did holland only concede 3 goals, with almost the same list of defenders? With the Great Jan Koller and Nedved in attack? didnt holland win twice, 2-0, or am i just day dreaming. Our defense is young, but certainly not the weakest. If Jan Koller, Nedved, and other brilliant czech strikers didnt get past us, serbia and montenegro certainly wont. As for your group, you have good defenders, but i dont think they have the magical touch to resist van nistelrooy, robben, and kuyt or babel as a fierce attacking group upfront! And our defenders are way under estimated, you will see as time passes.

Mike and Martijn,
Steely self-confidence produces great victories. So you can expect nothing less.
What I don’t feel from any of you is a true sense of confidence. I sense a bit of “we aren’t that great” from the Dutch. I’m not sure the Dutch believe they’ll play like the Dutch of old.
No Davids, No Makaay, A Depressed Nistelhooy… no Kalou, No Young Ajax Star… lots of ‘what is Marco doing?’.
I think the Dutch come to hate Leipzig.

Martijn…..
Jan Koller and Pavel Nedved ddnt play in either games against the Dutch.

I must said, that, as a Serbian I am glad about this sqaud.
There are players, that I would have taken with me for sure like Davids, Seedorf, Makaay and especially Huntelaar.
It is good for us, that van Basten took so many youngsters. Of course, they still have some chances, but favorite ? No, clearly not!
van Nistelrooy and Robben had awful seasons

Lyle
One of the things Van Basten pointed out from his day to nowadays is that Dutch players are staying in the Dutch league. If you look around there are over 20 Dutch players not playing in the league. Back in the 70’s there was one or two. I don’t think the talent has diluted at all, it’s just not at home where they can learn to play together. Hence why Van Basten has been pushing for the Belgian league and Dutch league to become one, better competition, more money to spend, better chance to keep the stars at home.
And becareful of no young stars/Ajax boys, I’m pretty sure Babel will be that guy that you are talking about, glad that we have focused a bit of attention on him in other threads.
In the end I’m happy with the lineup, surprised by a few choices I am. But that’s what makes us all fans, looking for what we think is right, and allowing us to discuss it. I think the Dutch have a very good chance as long as they play as a team.
Hup Holland

the Dutch team is talented no doubt, but van Basten I think is soon going to be about as popular as Klinsmann is in Germany right now.

I dont care about the Dutch. Im sure they will start playing against us like we are some kind of Third World Team: full of confidence, arrogance and ignorance. And thats also how they are going to lose against us hehehe

Germany

yes, steemly, like you said. OVER confidence can lead to sloppy playing, not knowing what to expect. Van Basten knows what he’s doing. We might not even be in this world cup without him. Im thankfull for that. Did we get into the world cup of 2002, no. Even though we had wonderfull stars in our group, but they did somehow not cope with playing as a team. That was what alot of dutch fans hoped Marco would do, blending a who like to play together, one with team spirit! Why choose big names if they are not of any use, or cannot simply cope with playing as a team. The world class players of 98 get older aswell, it is time for Marco to make a new generation, who are capable of playing together in a friendly manner, and know how there team mates like to play, a team that can lift the world cup this summer in germany! My favoutites are still Holland and Argentina, and they will top there group. Crno Gorac, exactly my point. You guys rest hope to much on just one or two players with big names, Holland know, after all these years, has learnt to play as a team. Names Nor Fame can win a world cup, there ability to play can. Lyle, davids is starting to show his age, and Van Nistelyrooy simply plays in the same possision as makaay, and i seriously would have chose ruud over makaay. Van The Man! But in the end we are all fans, and we just love discussing football! We’ll see who comes out victorious

you just better hope your teams brings their A game to Leipzig… cause only the Dutch A game will earn them a draw at best.

if this is REALLY a team, will show in the World cup. everything else your saying is wishful thinking Martijn.
I have seen some of the Dutch games under van Basten and the only thing that impressed me was the indivdual skills of players like Robben, not the strategy, the tactics or the collective spirit as a TEAM !
Sorry but i didnt see this …

God, you germans always have alot to learn. a single player does not win the game. Jezus you guys are stupid. And a dutchman probablu knows there team better than a german does. Aufwiedersehen meine Deutsche Freund rogi. LATER!

I know you Dutch guys quite well, and although living in Germany, Im noit german Martijn
I have the same opinions about the germans though like you
Still: the DUTCH are completely overrated and I think its a mediocr team. My opinion. And Im NOT German !!!!
