Ok, Now we Like Petkovic

February 23rd, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 5 Comments »

My pal Igor who puts together the fine Jadran Sport site, has been trying to convince me that our man in Brazil Euler is wrong about Dejan “The Pet” Petkovic. Today, he sent me this video that gives an indication of what The Pet is all about. With all due respects to Euler, this guy looks like he should be starting for Brazil instead of Ronaldo. Henceforth, I am officially on The Pet bandwagon. Sign me up for the fan club!

PS - I still don’t know why he doesn’t play for the Serbia and Montenegro national team.

He has some nice touches on the ball to be sure, but from this video and his teammates celebrations he does not strike me as much of a team player. Of course, this is his highlight reel so it’s all him, but it wasn’t like all his teammates were mobbing him after some of those cracking goals.

I’d be interested to watch him in a full game. And if a defender can be aware of that little back flick he does, perhaps he can be better neutralized. Let’s hope S-M takes him to Germany.

You can believe what you want. You know anybody could look good in a videoclip, right?

Pet is a top level player, but he would never, and I mean NEVER play in our Selection. Sorry to be that blunt, but you can ask any Brazilian.

Again: he is good and I hope to see him playing at the World Cup, but for S&M.

The name of the video is “Collection of Goals”… well I saw only 5 goals and a collection of slow motion replays with a great music and tons of shots from the crowd.

Here in Rio (Fluminense) Pet scored only 8 times in 29 games (0.27 goals per game). Try to compare to Ronaldo: 10 goals in 15 games in La Liga with Real Madrid (0.66 goals per game). That’s more than twice!

Pet is good but don’t exagerate, please!

Euler, I love you man. Some day you will join the winning team and become part of the Pet Fan Club. Until then, you’ll be happy seeing our boy score a few against Argentina this summer. Who knows? He might even put a few in against your team as well.

Video and rock music never lie :-)

Hey Bob! It would be poetic if he scores more than Ronaldo. My tongue (or my fingers) would fall off!

Everybody loves Pet (not Rambo) but to place him in the Selection??? What a trip!
