Did you even watch the game? They have nothing to worry about, other than the fact that the Australians went on a hacking streak and injured several Dutch players. But come World Cup, they are still going to trounce Serbia.

Interesting feedback. The Aussie blog is toughting their effort and calling the Dutch wimps (paraphrasing here…). Not following the match myself, I’m glad to hear a review that says there’s no cause for concern. I have high expections for the Netherlands team this time.

bidemi,
it’s simple logic. if the dutch can’t beat the socceroos, how are they going to beat argentina, serbia and montenegro, and the ivory coast?

Are you actually trying to apply logic to the way games are won? Okay then, by your “logic”, Serbia won’t win a single game in the WC because they couldn’t even beat Uraguay- a team that couldn’t even qualify for the world cup. Like I said, go watch the game again and then draw your conclusion. Because you’ll notice that the game heavily favored Holland and the Aussies could only keep a stable score by injuring 3 Dutch players. Until then throw your fallacious logic out the window, because football isn’t mathematics or teams like South Korea would never have sniffed the semi-finals.
good day

Lyle,
Bad day to tick off Dutch fans, we are more than a little angry with the amount of injuries caused by the Aussies and the fact we tied. Don’t worry just giving us more reason to open up the tournament with a win for once.

I just watched the game conisdering im from Australia. Netherlands were alot better then OZ, but they werent great. There defence is poor and the midfield looks like its in an injury crisis of sorts at the moment. This can be taken advantage of from our point of view.
Withough the likes of Snejder, V Bommel, Cocu and V Vaart, the Dutch really dont have any World Class Midfilders ( Madura, Landzaat….Please) The Dutch forwards are brillian however, but theyll find it much tougher against our defence then against the Australians.
The Dutch defence on the other hand is poor. Mathijesen, Heitinga and Bouhlarooz are poor and error prone, whilst I can see Koroman and/or Djordjevic running circles around Van Bronkhaust.
However, it may be easy to get passed the defenders, but we cant forget the Dutch have a World CLass Goalie waiting for us. Will be an awesome game!!!

2 out of 3 injuries were caused without any free kick being given because it was a 50/50 contest. Yes the sending off was a bad challenge and rightly so it cost any chance of Australia of winning the game. Truth be said Australia struggled in the 1st 30 minutes. But they settled well after that and deserved the goal. It was a moment of madness and lack of experience that swung the game back into dutch favour. Would have to say I was dissapointed to see the amount of diving that the dutch did in the game, however I was with several neutral persons and they all were impressed by Australia’s performance.

The Dutch were better technically. The Australians had a fine strategy and deserved this away draw. This should boost their confidence. once again it showed that the Dutch have problems against defensive line ups. Btw….Serbia will play with two defensive midfielders against Holland. I expect a similar game between Holland and Serbia ![]()

poor effort from both teams. nobody is talking about schwarzer. without him the score could have been easily 3-1, 4-1. hope for him and the team that he will get the startup for the wc. lucky that japan is not at their best. at least now i see a real chance for oz to pull through.

Most friendlies before world cup is only for morale boost and for the trainer to see his players. But, in the world cup it is a different story. Most of the teams that are losing their games now, I am sure won’t be losing it in the world cup. Netherlands and Australia are both good teams, but I doubt if it was in the world cup they would have tied 1-1?? I think you all the know the natural outcome if the match was a serious one.

The Dutch had 65% of possession and Mark Schwarzer made 12 great saves. Don’t worry about the Dutch, you Serbs better hope your keeper is up to the task!

Well.. if the Dutch were expecting a ‘morale boost’ then they certainly came away with something much more valuable. Let’s face it, Australia rose to the occasion. I think more respect needs to be shown towards the ‘newer’ teams like AUS, JAP etc. They played just as hard to qualify against quality opposition.
Don’t blame your team’s performance on injuries. There was only one bad challenge.. The others were all perfectly legit - remember this is soccer, not netball. Perhaps the Dutchies would have fared a bit better if they concentrated more on their game than on their unsporting theatrical dives. And if you are going to argue that it was just a muck-around friendly warm-up and the result doesn’t mean anything - why did the Netherlands even turn up, let alone field a near full strength starting 11? It doesn’t work both ways. If a team wants to be successful in the world-cup, they have to play with honesty and integrity, and that includes paying respect to the opposition when it’s due.
Well played Socceroos - nice ‘morale boost’.

A draw between the Dutch and Australia was a fair result, but the referee is another question.
Australia’s Luke Wilkshire definitely did not deserve a send off. See the action in slow motion and see the Dutch player in full acting mode - good for mini Oscar.
I have seen players who have made similar tackles and not a warning. If referees are not consistent and turn a blind eye , errors such as the disaster of the last World Cup will be seen again, and many teams will suffer from atrocious refereeing, and undeserved teams will win games.

Really Good match i must say. If it wasnt for your aussie goilie, Holland would have won around 5-1 maybe 6-2, cause verduka had a good head on goal, but a brilliant save by van der sar. As me being dutch, i was disapointed with the score, but most impressed by the style and pace of play by the dutch. I do not know how your goalie saved all those balls, but i congratualate him. and Dutch coach Hiddink ofcourse. Making such good progress with a nation who knows nothing about round balls that you kick into a “goal”. Everyone in this blog that is dutch, we have nothing to worry about. VDV is making progress, and cocu is doing just fine. Although im not sure about sneijders progress. Anyways, i must say, Hiddink really knew how to literally tackle our team. But then again, i would expect nothing less of him. Our defence has always been shaky for the past few years, and they are holding just fine. after all, the aussie basically scored of a penalty eh? ![]()
